Zinc Layer and Resistance to CorrosionSuch a coating performed by hot-dip galvanizing method, regardless of the metal coated, there are effects of corrosion acting over the zinc layer. The rate of reaction of corrosion changes according to the chemical properties of the atmopshere’s conditions where the steel is situated.
Where the atmosphere is under the influence of industrial regions or at a marine geography contaminated by industrial wastes, it is an expected result that zinc coating thickness will decay faster. Furthermore, there has not been a certain conclusion about whether the coated material has an effect over this rate of decay. Various chemical properties of metals can increase the absorption of zinc to itself, but also this does not have an effect over the rate of corrosion over the metal. In short, rate of corrosion over zinc coating is mostly affected by the atmosphere in reaction rather than the metal coated.
The atmosphere in question of contact with the metal can be diversifies into two main definitions. These are inside and outside atmospheres. Effects of the atmosphere outside of the buildings have more severe effects than the atmosphere’s inside. There are fewer fluctuations in parameters such as temperature and humidity inside buildings and also rainfall and soluble components in rain and their related products are out of question as well. Because of these reasons, it can be accepted that zinc coating over the material inside buildings is four-five times more than that of outside buildings. However due to presence of restricted ventilation and if an occurrence of humidity as a result of actions inside the building is occurring then there might be an increase of the rate of corrosion over the zinc coating.
